I LOVE SUNFLOWERS! They are tall, cheerful and hardy and they are the theme for this week's Diva Challenge, courtesy of a Penny B, Zentangle enthusiast in South Africa, who tells us that "In Republic of South Africa, on 12 October we have Bandana Day, which is run by the Sunflower Fund. This is an organization founded in 1999 in support of the SA Bone Marrow Registry for people suffering from leukemia"
My grandfather died of leukemia and so this is for my Opa. He has been gone a long time, but he was a great guy and I still remember him riding a bike in the backyard (he was Dutch) and I also still have some of his letters with his incredibly gorgeous swirly handwriting. I had fun making this Zentangle-inspired sunflower and used a Sakura metallic gelly roll copper star pen for the petals. I hope the sparkles show online. Forgive me that this looks like maybe another flower more than a sunflower:)
It's beautiful! At first glance the copper makes the petals look like old paper cutouts pasted together. How did you make them? Did you tangle with your micron and then go over them with the copper pen? The sparkles do come through. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI love the shimmery copper color. The close up image looks great. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I colored in the petals with the copper gelly roll and then tangled on top of the copper with the black micron. It was an experiment, but I was happy with the results.
ReplyDeleteLove the coppery look...I am glad someone asked and you explained...great designs and great idea! I may have to "steal" this idea of using the gelly roll!
ReplyDeleteGreat use of patterns, and the coppery color.
ReplyDeleteWow!! a shiny sunflower, love the effect!!
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely...the petals look like they're catching the sun!
ReplyDeleteThe touch of sparkly is so beautiful! Lovely sunflower...and I do love the color!
ReplyDeleteKaren, this is a gorgeous tangle. Great design, nice tangle choices, and the copper gel just elevates the whole piece to.... elegance! Great job.
ReplyDeleteOooo, I like the sparkly copper in the leaves and I like your sunflower! You should get a commission from Sakura cause I want some of their gelly roll pens! Next time I'm at Michaels, I'm gonna get some (unless Christmas gets here first :-) )
ReplyDeleteWow, the copper is stunning! Beautiful tangles!
